New advanced production facility
Auszac’s Melrose Park factory has just completed a massive upgrade to the sheet production facility. The upgrade means we can now satisfy our customers request quicker more efficiently without compromising quality.
This advancement in balsa wood sheet production now makes Auszac the most productive and efficient balsa wood facility in the world. Precise cutting, low waste and consistent quality is what Auszac EcoBalsa is about.
How Balsa Is Cut
We grade balsa into sheets before the timber is cut so the correct weight range sheet is produced.
There are three grades:
- M 1 = 60-120kg/m3
- M 2 = 121-187kg/m3
- M 3 = 188-252kg/m3
Since 2000, Auszac has been cutting balsa sheet from boards with thin kerf bandsaws. These bandsaws have been great but with the increased demand for high quality PNG balsa wood, we have developed an advanced system that puts our capacity at more than 1.5million sheets per year.
Reduced Waste by 40%
Did you know the waste to product ratio of a typical 1.5 x 100 x 915mm sheet of balsa wood is nearly 2:1? For every one sheet of balsa produced two are wasted. This is mainly due to dust. With our new technology we will reduce wastage by 25-40 percent depending on the thickness. This is inline with our ISO 14001:2008 Environmental Management standards to reduce waste.
Australian Made is Best
Auszac exports balsa wood to a number of countries from its Australian headquarters. This new equipment means we have increased capacity to supply balsa wood to our export partners. There are some clear benefits from working with an Australian supplier including:
- Reliable and honest invoicing.
- World class quality controls.
- Stable production and supply all year.
